On February 21, 2007 the Dothan Wiregrass Branch of the NAACP's
Economic Development Committee, which is headed by Mackroyce Corbitt,
Jr. held an Informational on Grants and Loans. The Speaker
was Ms. Dorothea Culver. Ms. Culver is a former State of
Alabama Employee who is currently working as an independent sales
rep. and Consultant. The event was sponsored by AfroDothan.com and Computer Printing Etc. as well as the NAACP.
Ms. Culver touched on the differences between Grants and Loans
as well as what it takes to get each one of them. She also mentioned
some examples and provided sites that are available that list various
grants. As for loans she mentioned the local Chamber of Commerce
and banks as a source. Pamphlets were passed out on the MicroLoan
and Revolving Loan, which where provide by the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Questions were asked by those attended. Many
of the visitors felt it was a great learning experience.
